As mentioned many times before, my name is Amanda. I was born in a town of around 4,000 people and raised in a town of around 1,000 people. I even went to college in a rural town of around 10,000 people.
So how did I end up in Milwaukee? Well, I'm glad you asked!
While I was attending college at University of Wisconsin-Platteville, I was a part of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, an organization that focuses on bringing people into fellowship and seeing people's hearts changed for the sake of the Gospel. Every year, InterVarsity hosts urban programs, an opportunity for students to spend spring break in a city around the United States and learn how to better serve the communities in that city. When I was in senior, I decided to attend Milwaukee Urban Program, MUP for short.
In my time at MUP, I really felt God's heart for the city, and felt that He was calling me to move to the city and to help advance His kingdom there. Later that summer, in 2015, I made the declaration in my heart and to my friends and family that I was moving to Milwaukee after I graduate the following winter.
And that's what I did.
I moved to Milwaukee. I took the risk that God was leading me into and moved to Milwaukee. Knowing that this is where God wanted me and having encouraging roommates and a patient fiance (later husband) are what got me through my first month of unemployment, three months at a job that stretched me and emotionally hurt me, a job as a child care teacher, to where I am now as a knitting pattern designer.
Now, I'm married. And God has not stopped calling out to me. God has no boundaries. He speaks to me even more clearly in marriage. He is the reason I took this risk.
If I wasn't feeling led to start this business as a pattern designer, believe me, I would not have left my job.
But because I trust God. Because my hope is in He who made me. I know that even when times will seem difficult, that He is King and that He will use this for His glory, not mine.
This is a small story of the big risks that God has led me into. Next time, I'll share with you some knitting related things that catch my mind!
Thank you for reading!
In Him,
Amanda
